Welcome to the era of Genoa’s "Golden Century." This imposing Renaissance palace, built for a famous admiral, marks the start of your journey into the world of the Rolli—the exclusive list of noble residences designated to host visiting kings, ambassadors, and popes. Notice the grand inner courtyard and the incredible frescoes depicting ancient Roman heroes.
Constructed in the 1540s for Admiral Antonio Doria (cousin of the legendary Andrea Doria), this palace was a true pioneer of Renaissance residential architecture in Genoa. To showcase his immense wealth and maritime prestige, Doria commissioned Lazzaro Calvi and his brother to decorate the central courtyard with sweeping frescoes depicting Roman military triumphs and heroic mythology. During the 16th century, when European monarchs visited the Republic of Genoa, official state lotteries determined which Rolli palace would host them. In 1854, the palace was acquired by the Province of Genoa, and today it serves as the seat of the Prefecture and local government administration.
