Dunavska Street
The oldest street in Novi Sad — a low, narrow lane of pastel townhouses leading to Danube Park.
History
Dunavska is officially the city's oldest street, running from Zmaj Jovina down to Dunavski park. The name simply means Danube Street: it was the shortest way from the market square to the river long before the park existed. Most of the buildings you see are from the late 18th and 19th centuries, kept low so the merchant carts had space.
Number 29 houses the Museum of Vojvodina's smaller natural history collection, and further down at number 4 is one of the last remaining old-Novi-Sad bakeries. In the middle of the street, ‘The Reader' sculpture (a boy on a bench reading a newspaper) is a small tribute to the neighbourhood's literary past.
At the end of the street you tumble straight into the Danube Park — plan it that way.
