Laze Telečkog Street
A narrow lane of bars and cafés — the nightlife spine of Novi Sad.
History
Ulica Laze Telečkog is a 200-metre alley just off Zmaj Jovina, and it is where the city goes out. Almost every doorway is a bar: rock, jazz, indie, techno, wine and a few kafanas mixed in for good measure. It's pedestrian, chairs spill onto the cobbles, and on a Friday night you can hear four different genres at the same time.
The street took its current shape in the late 19th century as a service lane behind the wealthy houses of Zmaj Jovina — which is why it's so narrow. The bars started colonising it in the 1990s and 2000s and by now the identity is fixed.
Come after 22:00 for the buzz. Earlier in the evening some places still serve full menus, which is a nicer, cheaper way to try it if you're not in the mood to close down a bar.
