History
Originally opened up in the 14th century by the ruling Scaliger family to directly connect the city's two main public hubs, this famous street was long known simply as Via Nuova ("New Street"). For centuries, it was a bustling, narrow commercial thoroughfare packed with artisan workshops, trade stalls, and local merchants.
In 1907, the street was officially renamed to honor Giuseppe Mazzini, one of the key founding fathers of unified Italy. During the 20th century, the city pedestrianized the entire street and paved it with local Rosso Verona pink marble, transforming a historic medieval passage into one of Europe's most elegant, mirror-polished shopping promenades.
